How to measure for a metal splashback
Share
Every Metal Clad panel is cut and patinated to your exact size, so accurate measurements matter. Here's how to measure for a splashback, step by step.
1. Measure the space
Measure the width and the height of the area you want to cover, in millimetres. Take each measurement in at least two places, as walls are rarely perfectly square, and use the smaller figure.
2. Allow for a small gap
For wall panels, we recommend allowing a 2mm gap between the metal and any surface it meets, such as a worktop, a wall or a cabinet. Take this off your measurements before you order.
3. Mark your cut-outs
We can cut out for sockets, switches, hobs and sinks. Make a simple drawing of the panel showing the position and size of each cut-out, measured from the left-hand edge and from the bottom of the panel to the edge of each cut-out. Send it with your order.
4. Check the maximum size
Brass panels can be up to 3000 × 1000mm and copper panels up to 2000 × 1000mm. Larger sheets are sometimes available; we'll check with the mill when you order. If your splashback is bigger, we'll split it into panels and suggest where the joins should fall.
5. Plan the fixing
Our panels are 1.2mm brass or copper sheet as standard. Fix them with a non-corrosive grab adhesive suitable for metal; we recommend Hodgson's Silfix U9. Any colour-matched sealant must be suitable for brass and copper, so always check the product data sheet.
